General Discussion up for the grabs. Please have at it.
Honestly, don’t think we’d ever get tired of this one. Always found it interesting that the comments were shutdown so quickly. First of all, that it was posted on bvbl.net was amazing.
Enforcement of immigration laws; agreement with United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. States that it is the responsibility of the Governor to enter into a memorandum of agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement that would allow designated state and local law-enforcement officers to perform certain federal immigration law functions in the Commonwealth. Such an agreement is often referred to as an agreement under the federal 287(g) program.
Update: HB 623, Delegate Jackson Miller’s bill to require the Governor to enter into a statewide MOU with ICE, was passed by indefinitely in the Senate Courts Committee last night by a vote of 9-6.
‘Help Save Manassas’ has destroyed the real estate market causing many homes to go into foreclosure. This has caused the whole market to go into a ‘free fall’. According to the County’s budget report homes have lost on average 16% of their market value. Unfortunately, this trend doesn’t appear to be rectifying itself anytime soon. And if that wasn’t enough to cause a budget crunch the County now wants to spend double what they anticipated the cost to be. All of this when they have only identified an ‘insignificant’ cost attributable to the undocumented population. They identified approximately 3 million per year but to ‘fix’ the problem will end up costing more than 5 million a year. And even at that price they haven’t allotted any funds for defending against lawsuits that are sure to arise from the Immigration Resolution. Ironically it took the board years to research and investigate Parks and Open Spaces but yet only 3 months to enact legislation that appears to be very costly. More information on the County’s 2009 Budget Proposal can be viewed at http://www.pwcgov.org/docLibrary/PDF/007738.pdf
According to the County’ s Budget plans we are in for a rough road ahead. At a minimum, it appears that we are looking at an 8% increase with no money set aside for defending against the lawsuits that are sure arise in defending the ‘Immigration Resolution.’ More info to come.
Well duh. Don’t know how long that will last though with the current treatment of Hispanics. Ironically, some PW citizens have claimed that Democrats are pushing for amnesty so that they can increase their voting bloc. WRONG. Anyways, the full story can be found here – ‘Hispanic Voters Now The Most Republican Voting Bloc in Virginia? ‘
To clarify, I’m not opposed to the ‘Rule of Law’, but I don’t agree with 20 years of non-enforcement by the Federal government followed by a period of strict enforcement without making some accommodations for those individuals who in many cases have been entrapped by inconsistencies in our immigration policies.
Just a reminder, it’s only post 9/11 that we have required people to adjust their status by returning to their home countries. But many of these individuals entered our country during a time period where we allowed them to gain work sponsorship after they arrived ILLEGALLY. However ,now with changes in immigration laws these individuals who were once under the impression that they could adjust their status here have now been told that they must leave and in many cases for extended periods. Many times people have claimed that these people have had enough time to become citizens without the realization that this option hasn’t been offered for many years. It doesn’t make sense to have these people abandon their homes, have their children lose years of an educational opportunity only to readmit them years from now. It doesn’t seem to benefit our economy now or in the future and, our inconsistent policies are directly affecting the lives of many including our most vulnerable – US citizen children. Read more…
Just surprised that this one is even reported on the bvbl.net website. Typically, the only stories that are deemed newsworthy appear to be those that involve a suspect who is Hispanic. Otherwise, we usually don’t here diddly squat. For some reason though, Osbourn High School seems to be of special interest to this blogger.
The bully lectures on bullying, oh this should be interesting.
This blog entry is about a letter written in the Manassas Journal Messenger by Ruben Pineda. While there are many points that I disagree with Mr. Pineda he has a valid point when he states, -“Deny it, but racism has been the reason for many to speak against illegal immigration.” There have many instances of racist comments especially during Citizens Time often the individuals are wearing a red circle sticker. Comments that stand out in my mind are as follows:
I don’t like it when a Hispanic can own 9 homes but I can’t own one.
When I drive by a daylabor site, I feel as if the men could jump out into the street and hijack my car at any second.
I feel uncomfortable when a Hispanic man nods his head at me.
Thank God for birth control.
And yes there’s the accusation that they are disease infested, parasites, suitable for dog food … Well the list goes on and on….
First of all, the name of the organization ‘Help Save Manassas’ along with ‘Help Save Virginia’ names & mission are extremely similar to ‘Save Our State’, a California organization which has ‘white nationalist’ ties. More information found here. Ironically, he’s no longer on the payroll for Federation for American Immigration Reform presumably because of his associations to neo-Nazi groups. Ironically, they have yet to distance themselves from founder and current board member John Tanton who has equally disturbing ties.
