Budget Debacle

February 27th, 2008

According to the County’ s Budget plans we are in for a rough road ahead.  At a minimum, it appears that we are looking at an 8% increase with no money set aside for defending against the lawsuits that are sure arise in defending the ‘Immigration Resolution.’  More info to come.

Astounding! No research, to date, to even prove that our “illegal immigration crisis” is even costing us a penny. Two years the county studied our Parks/Open Space/Trails comprehensive plan chapter, countless hours have been spent by staff AND citizens, multiple citizen survey’s were done and Parks and Open Space were clearly a priority. In fact, 74 % of responsents said they would approve of some tax increase if it were dedicated to land aquisition. Hmmm, illegal immigration, sprung up by John Stirrup with no forewarning, three months til final revision, NO formal research done to determine willingness of citizens to pay for it, and it passes with no questions. Do you know what Marty Nohe had the NERVE to say tonight while discussing the Parks and Opens Space…..Marty “ummm, I don’t feel comfortable voting for something if I don’t what it’s going to cost, that isn’t my style”. What, are you freakin’ kidding me, voting to fund, what now has climbed to 25.6 million, is your style?

Always about PEOPLES rights, never about CITIZENS rights as in the right to defend our sovereign borders! I understand that criminals are people too, but that never stopped a 14 year old from getting busted for stealing a 50 cent pack of gum, and that is a far less crime than breaking Federal Immigration laws. So which is it, do we simply throw out all laws that affect PEOPLE? That would create a totally lawless environment, but then that’s exactly where most of these PEOPLE came from, so breaking laws is no big deal to them. Unfortunately that mind set has been adopted by folks such as you simply because they are PEOPLE and no other reason.

Yeah, that was funniest quote of the night, especially considering that’s exactly what they all did with respect to the Immigration Resolution.

Did a quick search and found this, http://www.immigrationprocon.org/questions/illegalimmigrationcrimefelony.html

Of course, this is dated from April of last year but even according to Tom Tancredo, – “Right now, illegal presence in the USA is not a crime; it is a civil infraction.”

It appears that it doesn’t reach the level of a stolen pack of gum; mind you I’m not saying that it shouldn’t but as of today it doesn’t. This should be part of a Comprehensive Immigration Reform package that’s part of a cohesive policy that actually makes sense. Another inconsistency is that someone who aids and abets is subject to a longer jail sentence than the criminal. Can you give me another example of where that happens? Sounds pretty screwed up to me.

Citizens are people, we are all people, we are all human beings. Not sure what your intention is to seperate those two out.

Alamo, unless you are living in some bizarro world, in this country we have levels of legal infractions. If you drive 60 miles an hour, and the speed limit is 55, you are subject to being pulled over and ticketed. The question you have to ask yourself is this, is that what I want my police officers wasting their time and my tax dollars doing. My answer would be no.

You are buying into a premise based on hysteria and fear. I do not believe, as some who blog on HSM, that our country’s survival is at risk from illegal immigrants. I do recognize that there are neighborhoods, the middle to lower income older communities, that have seen major changes in their demographics. This change has brought about a cultural clash, the way to resolve these issues are not by wasting MY tax dollars on an unproven and unresearched resolution, but to first create a community task force that all people feel welcome to partipate in and solve these issues together. You and people like you assume that every hispanic that does not speak English, or that has several families living in one household must be illegal. I strongly urge you to revisit the history of immigrants to this country and you will find that multiple families living together is a common occurance. Getting rid of the “illegals” will not address the concerns of these communities. Greg’s website is a cespool of hate and ignorance with no interest in problem solving excpet to villify and entire ethnic group. One would believe, reading his website, hispanics committ all the crimes, are the cause of MRSA, the housing market crash, and a multitude of other evils. I prefer to stay away from the kool aide mix he is feeding people and think for myself.

IT – second that completely. Completely.

The budget is going to be public funding of a campaign for lieuteant gov. for Mr. Cory. This is not about illegal immigration, it is about his goal for higher office. He wants to be the governor and this is the quickest way to do it. I’ll vote for him just to get him off the Board of Supervisors. That would be Help Save Prince William – get rid of King Cory.

What’s worse though Bonefinder? Having him ruining our county or our state? Yikes, is there a lesser evil?

  10. February 28th, 2008 at 09:38 | #10

Yeah…there is a lesser evil. Remove him. He’s a lawyer after all. He can earn big bucks–that is, if anyone would hire him.

Hey, maybe GL will be Corey’s FIRST client!

I think Corey is in for a rude awakening. He has banked his entire political career on the illegal immigration frenzy. You would think with the most recent loss of HSM candidates in Manassas and who(McCain), ultimately survived the republican presidential primary, that he would have caught on that illegal immigration is not the most pressing concern for the average citizen.

Corey is a relatively young man. Twenty years from now, perhaps it will not be quite so noble to take the political stance he does. Look at Trent Lott, Senator Byrd, etc.

I expect Corey is adaptive enough to surive. I do not believe all of his colleagues are.

He wouldn’t get anywhere at the state level. Warner is a shoe in and Stewart would just rant and rave like the immature child he is. He will go the route of Allen/Gilmore.

Last year we deported 60 illegals. If that number triples or quadruples or jumps by ten times (which depending on ICE it is not likely) then in five years we would have deported 3,0000 illegals all for $24Million. So in that time, 600 move in. Now that’s a great cost per for the bean counters…… Even if we increase it by 100 times, that just under $1Million spent per deportation. Given the return rate…..

Focus on tax laws, focus on neighborhood clean up. Did anyone notice that even at 8% this budget does not add any new neighborhood services folks?????

Anyone have any idea why Mr. Wingnut over on the OTHER has not addressed our local budget issues? Too complicated? Lost his insider information? Maybe he’s been blocked???? Maybe he’s been spanked? Sure seems strange he’s not all over the RULE OF LAW funding for the upcoming years.
