News Flash!  NM Governor Bill Richardson has withdrawn his name for consideration for Secretary of Commerce.  A federal grand jury is investigating how a California company that contributed to Mr. Richardson’s political activities was awarded a lucrative New Mexico state contract.

Will there be more selections who do not make it to the finish line?  Bill Richardson always seemed like a knowledgeable person who was brimming with foreign relations experience.  It costs millions to win an elected office at that level.  How can anyone raise the kind of money it takes to get elected and at the same time not have awards questioned?  We certainly don’t want to limit elected office to only the extremely wealthy.

Will more of the chosen fall, before Senate confirmation?  What do our readers think?

  1. Slowpoke Rodriguez

Another corrupt politician…it’s very difficult to believe.

  2. JustinT

Apparently not that hard to believe, Slowpoke, if you have already jumped to conclusions.

The update is, Richardson says he is resigning because the investigation will slow down the confirmation. Others say he was pressured to step down.

Slow, I am not sure he is corrupt. Let’s let the investigate shake down. You know how it works. Go after whataever you can if it is the opposing party.

    Investigator Rodriguez,
Have you started your own investigation? Background or otherwise? 😉

Chris, could we maybe refer to him as “Slow” or “Slowpoke.” The “Rodriguez” part is clearly meant to be derogatory and serves as a reminder that for some this has never been an issue of legal vs. illegal.

I have always felt Bill Richardson was one of the good guys. He has a rather interesting bio. His mother is Mexican and his father was an American executive working in Mexico City. His mother was a socialite who worked for his father. Even though the couple lived in Mexico City, the dad sent the mom to California before Bill was born.

It seems that Father Richardson had a complex because he had not been born in the United States and didn’t want the same for his child. Richardson has had many politically appointed jobs in US government. He was Ambassador to the UN under Clinton and Secretary of Energy. He was elected Governor of New Mexico. He will survive. I think I would rather be governor of NM than Sec of Commerce anyway. Beautiful country. I feel a trip coming on.

Great interview with Bill Richardson in Playboy last fall, btw.

And to think I didn’t believe that guys really did read Playboy for the good “articles”. I guess I was wrong.

With all due respect, sir/madam. I will address a poster as *I* see fit. I was one of, if not the first to call him/her “slow”. Honestly, do you think you are the “screen name police” or something?

  9. NotGregLeteicq

Golly, Chris, all I said was “could we maybe.”

If I were the screen name police I would have disallowed anyone from using a Hispanic word or name in their moniker as an expression of hatred. But this is not my blog.

I just think it’s confusing because then it almost sounds as if a Hispanic person is saying outrageously stupid things, when really it’s a person who despises Hispanics.

I did start of with all due respect…
I’m sorry for some reason my 😉 was left off of the last sentence. It seems to be a problem when question marks are involved.

Anways, I do try to keep a sense of humor. I thought you’d been around enough to know that about me.

Oh, I think one’s screen name is very telling sometimes.

I’m not the “enemy” here. Relax.

Okay. I just reread you post with a happy face in mind and it was totally different.

    Sorry ( =
