Not ready to come back to reality after a weekend of family, boating, fishing, swimming and sunning. I even caught some fish, something I never do because fish are inherently smarter than I am.

  2. June 1st, 2010 at 13:33 | #2

    Where did you fish?

What in the world ???? This is crazy and I fear only one example of what is going on.

TACOMA, Wash. — Paulo Sergio Alfaro-Sanchez, an illegal immigrant being held at a detention center in Washington state, had no idea that the federal government would count him in the census.

No one gave him a census form. No one told him his information would be culled from the center’s records.

But counted he was, along with other illegal immigrants facing deportation in detention centers across the country – about 30,000 people on any given day, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement.

By the time the census delivers the total tallies to the state and federal government, most of the immigrants will be long gone. But because the population snapshot determines the allocation of federal dollars, those in custody could help bring money to the towns, cities and counties in Texas, Arizona, Washington and Georgia where the country’s biggest and newest facilities are located.

A take on the Canadian health care system by CATO with reference to the recent Reuters article.

    http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2010/06/01/the-welfare-state-taken-to-its-logical-conclusion/

Another interesting thing I heard on today’s morning news was that a lot of employers are desperate for PT/Seasonal employees but can’t find willing employees. Employers had expanded and hoped that with unemployment that giving jobs would be easy — one hiring manager put it out in stark terms. “We’re being told that with extended unemployment benefits, that some people are CHOOSING to take the summer ‘off’ instead of working for a paycheck”.

God job Congress. You’ve helped us become Greece.

Now Sarah Palin is criticizing NBC for doing an interview with the author writing about her, who has rented the house next to her.

Not long ago she resigned from elective office because it was interfering with her ability to make money. But don’t worry, she assured us, Alaska wouldn’t miss her at all.

The woman’s not ready for her close up.

  7. June 2nd, 2010 at 12:55 | #7

Unfortunately, most of us don’t get to pick and chose our neighbors. As long as the author obeys the law, I feel he is entitled to live there.

It seems like Palin thinks she is Queen of Alaska.

No, this is wrong. This is stalking. Its not even poparazi – its peeping tom wrong. This was not incidential – this was planned and is intrusive. Its a new low. There should be a law against peeping toms like this – just to protect America so that real people can enter into politics. If it had happened to anyone else, all you liberals would be squaking too. Good thing Sarah has the money to move. I am sure she did not want to, but welcome to America, where money and fame have their own costs. Nope, this guy is a number 1, class A headliner ass-hole.

“A New Low”? As far as I can tell the Starr Report, with its details of analingus, cigar play, and cum-shot by cum-shot detail is still the all-time low on intrusiveness.

    June 2nd, 2010 at 14:15 | #10

Huh? So are you suggesting that the Ken Starr report set a new low or the proven activities of a previous president — who inexplicitly continues to be held in high regard by liberals and feminists – to a subordinate, employee, intern, is lower than this bottom feeder? On the second point -ok, there is lower.

It is an interesting thought though. Certainly Clinton’s actions were illegal no matter where they took place, but, assuming for a moment that he was not her supervisor and he had done it in the private residence vice the “public” Federal office space would any of us really cared and would it have even been illegal – forget lying to the Grand Jury and interfereing with a federal investigation — No, I don’t think so – under those conditions — just a creep. Actually she used that term too.

And since we know that Jon Stewart is our favoite comedian – when attacking Palin and the Tea Partiers – heerrre’s jonnny!

Now, they’ve tried a couple different ways to fix this damn thing. There was the ‘top hat’ idea, where they were going to put a dome over the whole thing. That didn’t work. Then there was the ‘junk shot’, where they tried to fill the pipe with mud and golf balls and trash. And that didn’t work, although on the plus side, we did fill the Gulf of Mexico with mud, golf balls and trash.” But fear not, America, the President of the United States of America is on the case! ‘I’m not going to rest or be satisfied until the leak is stopped.’ … He will be on this thing 24 hours a day, right after celebrating the great Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball national championship. …

    Slippery slop that oil thing.

Since the contract to renew this guy’s contract is coming up tonight, thought there might be some interest in this. Interesting that Walts/Imon haven’t reported the school’s expenditures on him since 2007

    LOBBYING CLIENT:
    Prince William County Public Schools
    Reporting Period 2006-2007
    Registered Lobbyists Retained:
    •Council, James G

    Gifts $0
    Office Expenses $0
    Communications $0
    Living/Travel $0
    Compensation $51,672
    Honoraria $0
    Registration $0
    Other DETAILS $1,017
    Total Reported $53,906

    Other Expenses:
◦$202: Attendance at conference◦$815: mileage reimbursement (approx.)

  13. June 2nd, 2010 at 16:51 | #13

Mom, not even sure that report makes sense.
Compensation for what? I see no details.

    TP,

You are on a collision course with private property rights. Palin needs to spring for a big privacy fence with her big bucks she is earning. You are suggesting that no one can move in next door to the Queen.

As for Ken Starr, I agree with Rick Bentley that is the lowest of the low.

And TP, yes, Jon Stewart is back. I found his skit amusing but not thigh slapping funny. It was his first night back from vacation though.

  14. June 2nd, 2010 at 16:55 | #14

Short form, in FY 07-08 (had the wrong dates in the earlier post) the PWC schools shelled out $53906 to a Richmond lobbyist. Again, why the redundant expenditures in PWC? The county has/had a paid lobbyist on staff, much as I disagreed with his actions, why isn’t the school system making use of him instead of dropping 50+ grand on their own private, slimy weasel?

  15. June 2nd, 2010 at 16:57 | #15

BTW, Gil, Wouldn’t that 50 grand (probably substantially more now) have gone a long way toward funding an internal auditor. Priorities, priorities, priorities.

  16. June 2nd, 2010 at 17:35 | #16

Historically, the county and the school system do not cross pollinate.

  17. June 2nd, 2010 at 19:27 | #17

I say use explosives and just seal the damn hole. Big explosives…..aren’t we late in testing a nuke or two? You know, a small one…..

Maybe there’s a Davy Crockett munition or a suitcase nuke laying around….

  18. June 2nd, 2010 at 19:52 | #18

    What’s Davy Crockett munition?

Wouldn’t we have radio active shrimp forever, Cargo?

Just sitting here wondering how my former student drowned in the bath tub last week. Just wondering…how did numerous complaints to a more than one CPS agency get ignored for YEARS? How come mama of dead child received SS disability benefits for her 3 eldest, plus food stamps, plus medicaid, and yet her cupboards were bare? Nary a diaper even. Why did PWC CPS investigate for 5 months and do nothing? What were they waiting for? Where were the middle class grandparents that knew mom had a problem? Why do they have custody of their grandchildren NOW?

Seems as though the 6 Supervisors that actually attended yesterday’s meeting think it’s ok to quick take property without any compensation for the property. I hope the voters are paying attention. This story should get everyone’s attention. If the county needed this property so damn bad they should be willing to pay for the land. Even the ugly words “imminent domain” includes compensation.

Pay attention to how our Supervisors feel the need to represent the residents that elected them. I hope people remember this kind of crap when the 2011 elections roll around.

  21. June 2nd, 2010 at 22:53 | #21

That whole story made no sense, lafayette.

I still don’t understand what happened.

DB, Parents have no control over what their adult children do.

Unfortunately, the state obviously has not much control either in the hard cases.

    @Lafayette

Yah, I saw that in the N&M… Wow. The govt took that woman’s home.

  23. June 3rd, 2010 at 07:18 | #23

Lafayette will have to call me and explain how that happened very slowly. It seems impossible.

  24. Lafayette
    June 3rd, 2010 at 08:11 | #24

The whole thing stinks to high heaven, Moon. I will try to explain this best I can with the limited information available in the article. I see problems on both sides, but quick take? I’m not sure about that.
    Calling now…

    @Moon-howler
A Davy Crockett was an insane weapon. A small nuclear weapon shot from a recoiless rifle with a range of 1.7 miles. It had poor accuracy. (Can you believe that that statement was actually in the Wiki and that it was a concern?) The radiation death radius was supposed to be about 1/2 mile. Think about how big the blast radius might have been. Its not mentioned. But I bet it made any use of the weapon a little problematic.

I was actually kidding about the nukes. One, its already been ruled out. Two, not guaranteed to work. Three, Pre-cooked shrimp (yay!) Four, the radiation would go away. Eventually.

Not saying I agree with a Davy Crockett but if yer gonna detonate the ocean is the safest place to do so. :) Not counting space of course but I think we just got rid of our space program.

Here’s a joke you may hear in the next couple of weeks.

    Q. How do you say ‘pigs’ in French?

    A. Cochons

Of course, there may be a more significant meaning to the joke. In fact, you might not even find it funny by the 25th of June.

    Au revoir,

  29. June 4th, 2010 at 07:59 | #29

FA, any time you say pigs I listen. More clues.

  30. June 4th, 2010 at 12:11 | #30

BP might end up being the nation’s largest employer. Can you only imagine how many people will be needed to clean up our beaches and shore line?

  31. Formerly Anonymous
    June 4th, 2010 at 13:19 | #31

That one was easy. I didn’t even do much to hide the important information (pigs, French, 25th of June.) Although I didn’t see today’s Hungarian surprise coming. I’m getting very worried that we’re going to need a new acronym and PIIGSFHUS just doesn’t have a nice ring to it.

The Euro is putting up a valiant fight to setup a support level at 1.20. It survived today which is surprising, but there isn’t a hard support level until 1.16 (the introduction rate) The ECB will go nuclear to prevent the Euro from falling belong 1.16. Oh wait, they already “went nuclear” back around 1.25 and it didn’t work. I made my Euro calls in a previous thread and I stand by them. The Euro will set record lows (below .85) before it tests previous highs. The recent $964 billion bailout only underscored the real problem, a lack of political will to really tackle the problem. And I can assure you that if I can see that, the bond traders can. (Sometime I’ll post a funny but not very family friendly story about bond traders.)

It’s going to be a long summer. The only good news is that the bond vigilantes don’t appear to be coming after the US…yet. The Eurozone is still too much of a “target rich environment” as the military folks put it. But make no mistake, the US is very, very, very vulnerable to a bond attack. It’s just that there is so much easy money to be made in the Eurozone right now. (And some genuine concerns that if you disrupt the US bond market, you just might just start the end of the world, ala September 2008.)

(I wrote a bunch more about the domestic situation and today’s disastrous jobs report but deleted it because it was too political to post here.)

  32. June 4th, 2010 at 17:06 | #32

Darn, I was just getting in to it. Can you take the politics out? Who would know?

I have this chip in my brain that makes buying and selling bonds very hard for me to understand.

Where will Great Britain end up in all of this since they kept their own currency?
