11-11-11 Thank you for your service

November 10th, 2011

The 11th hour on the 11th day of of the 11th month in the 11th year….This is a special Veterans Day just because of the date.   Today there is a contest.  Each year since 1978 the Department of Veterans Affairs  has created a special poster for the year.  Please chose your favorite poster  from the list, by year.  We will have an honorary poster winner  at the end of the day.  I already know my favorite.

For our contributor vets, thank you for your service.

Please don’t forget to chose a favorite Veterans Day Poster.

There are many Veterans Day posts today because Veterans are special.

My favorite is 1995, as those are the same medals my father was awarded, and he usually wore flannel shirts. My second choice is 2006 only because it is the only poster with some words of wisdom added to it.

I like the 2005 poster. It has the one thing that ALL service members have in common. Past, present, and future, we all have dog tags.

    God Bless America.

On this Veterans Day, we should forget the overlooked veterans.

Thank you to my wife and daughter. My wife was involved in my retirement ceremony too as she is considered to have served also…..

Thank you to all the wives and husbands and children and other family members that “soldier” along with us.

Light traffic today. There is no winning poster so I will continue the ‘contest’ through the weekend.

My favorite is 2008. Second favorite is the dog tag. 2005. I love the simplicity. Then 2000 in third place in my mind.

I think Lady Liberty is being overly used. I guess because it is the 125 birthday of liberty, she was bound to show up. It is a pretty poster.

2008 is an excellent choice as it mimics the poster for “Band of Brothers” – a nice reflection on the long long line. The 2000 is the close second as it includes the Nurses…a large group of unsung Veterans as it took the Veterans Administration years and years and years (and they still don’t completely get it) to recognize the WWII WACS, WAVES, et. al. and the long long line sinse.

oops…edit last word from “sense” to “since”. Although “sense” as in common sense is still something that has to be learned by that organization.

    Corrected, Ray.

    @Cargosquid
Oops. Just saw “we should forget” on #5.

That’s an important statement. Please correct it to “we should NOT forget.”

    Thanks.
