Its almost time to start the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Who stays here? Who cooks? Who goes out?
Who travels?
Thanksgiving is a lot of work.

Thanksgiving is a lot of work.
It is still sweltering and the Sesquicentennial is going full blast. Mr. Howler had to go up to Prince William Hospital and he said this evening there was a fleet of ambulances bringing in the war wounded…from the heat. Many of the friends are in period dress. I asked him if Robert E. Lee was up there and he said, no, he wasn’t at first Manassas. Geez! So much for my attempt at humor.
JEB, Jackson and Mosby are all asleep still and enjoying the AC.
Its time to slap up another open thread. Several people had a couple of remarks up. I will leave the pin in until around noon in case people want to cut and past remarks to the new post.
Every time I turn on the TV I heard about terror alerts in various countries. What is causing this? (I know, terrorists.) Is all the problem in Europe or is it here too? Who knows what or who thinks what?

One more week left in September. A new open thread is here. There is plenty to talk about. By now everyone has seen 9500 Liberty or at least had the opportunity to see it. I am watching “Waiting for Superman,” a documentary about America’s education system. Apparently it looks at the worst rather than the best. Davis Guggenheim of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ is the filmmaker.
I am not sure I am buying in to all this. Mr. Howler was listening about all the crappy teachers. He threw in one remark and left the room: what about all the crappy students? The documentary opened Friday. I am sure we will hear a great deal more in the upcoming weeks.
Happy Fall. Open thread for the week. I am going to ask the contributors to not get in to calling each other names. This is my favorite season.
The next couple of days will not be fall-like. Heat wave. I thought we were through with that heat crap.
Open threads get unpinned from the the first position when they reach 100 comments (or thereabouts). Also, I have set wordpress to reset at 50 comments so a thread doesn’t get too unwieldy.
The stock market has been fun today. I took some time to buy a few more winners and to shed some more of a loser. September is often the cruelest month and I don’t just mean in 2008. Historically, September usually stinks. Perhaps it is because all the fat cats come back in from the Hamptons and decide to clean house. Or maybe the end of the govt’s fiscal year is in sight. At any rate, not many of us have found our fortunes in September.
Does anyone have anything wise and profound to say about the market(s)?
There is already howling over no convenient open thread. I spoil some people.
That old one was getting too long. Here is the open thread for this week.
Not to sound like George III, but nothing important happened today. Those were ominous words. He uttered those ill-fated words on July 4, 1776. Had we fast-forwarded to July 4, 2010, he would have known instantly that the colonies had rebelled.
I am headed to God’s country for a few days but I am going well armed with computers, ipads, cameras, gkids, etc. My idea of roughing it differs a bit from most people’s idea. Mr. Howler will remain home with the young howlettes. ruff ruff.
How was the F-word? (ssshhhh-I mean Fair) Is that wretched thing over yet? The weather should be wonderful all week. No more 90 degree days in August. The dog days must be over…at least until September.
Another storm headed our way, another day of 90 plus degree weather, more killed by drunk driving, No BOCS meetings until Sept. 14. I will pin this to the top for a couple of days. That seemed to work out.
Is everyone able to navigate this blog ok?
Time for another open thread. There are too many topics floating about out there.
There is a Jobs Bill, Charlie Rangel fighting for his political life, the death of Senator Ted Stevens, the injury of former NASA chief O’Keefe and his son who are in critical condition following that plane crash that killed Sen. Stevens, the fed is buying back some US debt, and a host of primary elections that pretty much mean nothing to me. The local politicians seem quiet for a change.
I hope that Wolverine will bring us up to speed on this serial killer type in Leesburg. That is all very mysterious.
Today marks the beginning of one of the three tax free weekends in the State of Virginia. This weekend is for school supplies and clothes. The guidelines can be found here. School supplies have to cost less than $20 and clothing has to be less than $100. (I assume per item)
Secondly, a few reminders about navigating Moonhowlings.net.
Upper left hand corner you will see a little house icon. That takes you back to the beginning.
Bottom right hand corner you will see the word top. It works just like an elevator. If you ride the elevator to the top and then click on the house icon, you are right back at the beginning.
Want to use emoticons? There is a pdf with all instructions. Click on the highlighted word emoticons.
