Cuccinelli’s attempts to ban no fault divorce

September 5th, 2013 8 comments

Washingtonpost.com:

A recent Washington Post story explored Cuccinelli’s relationship with the fathers’ rights movement, which seeks to influence state and federal laws to give men a better position in  divorce and custody cases. Many fathers’ rights groups have pushed to end or reform no-fault divorce laws, and Cuccinelli did the same during his time in the state Senate.

“2008. Ken Cuccinelli writes a bill to give Virginia among the most extreme divorce laws in America,” says the announcer in McAuliffe’s (D) new ad. “If Cuccinelli had it his way, a mom trying to get out of a bad marriage, over her husband’s objections, could only get divorced if she could prove adultery or physical abuse or her spouse had abandoned her or was sentenced to jail.  Why is Ken Cuccinelli interfering in our private lives? He’s focused on his own agenda. Not us.”

Cuccinelli spokeswoman Anna Nix said her boss was proud of his record.

The GOP: Suicide by Santorum

February 17th, 2012 3 comments

Is the GOP intentionally committing political suicide or does it really not realize what is happening?  GOP, you have to run a real candidate.  Right now the field is narrowed down to a few  someones many people feel are either  morally reprehensible, OR someone no one likes or relates to OR someone so religiously conservative that his positions are repelling most of the people in the United States.

The attack on women’s reproductive rights is going to bury the GOP.  The Virginia legislature has made the Old Dominion the laughing stock of the nation.  Every night we see another Marshallism ridiculed by Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, or Rachel Maddow.  Ed Schultz has probably gotten in the act also.  While people are mocking the Virginia legislature and acting like the rest of us are all a bunch of bo-hicks, the nation now turns to Rick Satorum.

Santorum has left a paper trail of remarks that belong in another era long enough to bury the GOP and alienate most women.  Remarks about contraception being harmful have turned off all but the most conservative of the pro-life community.  Comments about convenience and aspirin from GOP backers are just feeding the fires of women’s ire.  Not just the feminists are furious.  Plain old normal women who don’t usually have political interests are pretty stirred up.

American News Media Called on to do a Penetrating Exposé of Congress for UnAmerican Views

October 20th, 2008 52 comments

I thought McCarthyism was a relic from the past. I thought McCarthyism was a post-WWII overreaction by some zealots to the perils of communism. I thought McCarthyism was dinosaur thinking whose imprint was left back in the late 40’s and the decade of the 50’s. Looks like I was way off base. It is alive and well as evidenced by an interview with Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann.

Congresswoman Bachmann is calling for the American news media to do ‘a penetrating exposé of Congress for un-American views.’ Would this be the same Mainstream Media all the darlings of the far right howl about on daily basis?

MSNBC pit-bull Chris ‘Hardball’ Matthews tries to hone in on exactly what Ms. Bachmann really means when she uses the terms ‘liberal’, ‘leftist’, and ‘anti-American’. Congresswoman (shudder) Bachmann is wound up tight and has her talking-points microchip all energized as she withstands a good grilling by Matthews. She doesn’t miss a beat while she castigates Presidential Candidate Obama as one who ‘pals around with terrorists.’

You have to see it to believe it.

Good news. Yes, there is something you CAN do about this outrage:

More good news. Bachmann is being challenged by a guy named Tinklenberg.
